Vulcan Restoration TrustVulcan XL426 is open to visitors on select days and occasions throughout the year
Vulcan Restoration Trust is a registered charity that owns and maintains an ex-Royal Air Force bomber, Avro Vulcan B2 XL426, at London Southend Airport, Essex.
XL426 is maintained in full ground working condition (i.e. it is not airworthy but its systems, including its engines, are kept in operating condition and the aircraft is capable of being taxied) as part of Britain’s aviation heritage and as a tribute to the men and women who flew and maintained the Vulcan during the Cold War. The Trust also seeks to educate the general public about the Vulcan and the important role it played in shaping Britain’s military history in the post-World War 2 era.
Our Visit the Vulcan Days are popular with families and enthusiasts alike, whilst our Vulcan VIP Visits give the aviation enthusiast with the chance to explore the Vulcan at a more leisurely pace, including the rare chance to sit in the Vulcan’s pilot’s or co-pilot’s seat. For clubs and societies, our Group Visits are an ideal way to experience XL426 as part of an organised trip which we can tailor to suit your needs.
Visit the Vulcan Days are your chance to see XL426 close-up and find out more about the role she played in the Cold War. There is plenty for all the family to see and enjoy, with displays of the equipment and weapons (including a nuclear bomb) that XL426 carried during her time with the Royal Air Force. Our experienced volunteers will guide you under the Vulcan’s mighty delta wings, explaining how it all worked, and for a small additional charge you can climb inside XL426’s cockpit to experience first-hand the cramped conditions in which her five man crew had to work. Refreshments are available throughout each day and our extensive range of Vulcan souvenirs will be available for you to buy from our stand. Entry and cockpit tickets are only available on the gate, on the day – there are no advance ticket sales.

After your day at the Vulcan Restoration Trust why not venture next door to the Holiday Inn Southend Rooftop Restaurant & Bar. Have a refreshing beverage whilst watching planes frequent the runway at Southend Airport, just a stones throw away.
